Short Cycling means the water pump keeps turning on and off rapidly whenever running water at one or more building fixtures.  You can tell your water pump is short cycling if:

  • Water pressure pulses - pressure going from strong to weak
  • Water pump turns on and off rapidly, on the same time interval
  • Water pressure gage oscillates from high to low pressure rapidly on the same time interval

Water Well Services:

If your home water supply stops and takes a long time to recover, you might have a problem with the well flow rate.  The culprit may be a bad well pump.  The well pump could be damaged by a bad water pressure tank which causes well pump short-cycling.  Short cycling of the pump motor can burn up the pump relay control.

The complex system of an underground well can make it hard to determine what may be causing a problem with your well tank, pump or pressure tank.  The list below identifies a few of the common problems within a residential or commercial property:

  • No or low water flow
  • Leak in piping system
  • Pump starting and stopping frequently
  • Water pressure drops
  • Lost air in the water tank
  • Water pressure control or water pump control switch sticking on or off
  • Incorrect voltage to pump
  • Damaged wiring
  • Faulty motor
  • Faulty pressure switch
  • Pressure switch setting is incorrect
